Stari Grad
Stari Grad is second largest city on Island Hvar and main port of the same island. Stari Grad means "old city" on English language, it was founded by Greece colonists 384 B.C under the name Faros. It is believed that those colonists where from Greek Island Paros. There is even believed that because its position there was an older Ilirian settlement even older than Faros. Latter Roman empire defeted Greeks and captured Faros, and after Romans, Slavic invaders(Croats) taken Faria(Roman name for Stari Grad) in 8th century. After that time Stari Grad came to Venetian rule, Turks invaded and destroyed much of city 1571, but city its self was rebulid after that. City then came under Napolenic rule, Austrian rule, where its prosper most. But because of bad economical conditions people were leaving town. They settled all around Dalmatia and Croatian in mainland or even go away in other countries and continents. Now Stari Grad is again growing with turism as its main resource.
